What strikes me now is that in the many ways Mother built our relationship,
she illustrated the way God deals with us as children. God knows and loves us
completely. As was true of Mother, God loves us when he corrects us.

This
morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest
Christian Women Writers of All Time.
As
any mother knows, discipline is one of the toughest aspects of love. Although
seldom appreciated when administered, discipline is the seed that produces the
flower of good character. Rare is the person of integrity who hasn’t
experienced discipline of some sort. It is an important teaching tool.
When
it comes to discipline, God is the expert. He can’t be persuaded or
sweet-talked out of correcting his children. If discipline is called for, he
patiently measures it out and persists until his children learn the lessons
they were meant to learn. He endures the grumbling or sullen anger his
correction sometimes inspires, knowing the good that will result I only his
child will listen and learn.
God
loves us when he corrects us. If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t bother He wants us
to be the very best we can be—and sometimes we just need a little help along
the way.
Prayer
for Meditation
Thank you, Lord, that you care enough
to discipline me.
Scripture
for Meditation
My child, don’t reject the LORD’s discipline, and don’t be upset
when he corrects you.
For the LORD corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom
he delights. Proverbs 3:11-12
