Father, I will keep coming to you until you answer, because I know that you will.

The determined fixing of our will upon God, and pressing toward him steadily and without deflection; this is the very center and the art of prayer.

~~Evelyn Underhill

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
When we think about losing weight or accomplishing some other goal, we long for the determination that sees goals through to their completion. After all, a goal anchored to the will is usually accomplished, isn’t it? But we must first have the belief that the goal can be accomplished.
This is the kind of attitude that Evelyn Underhill mentions in regard to prayer. The “determined fixing of our will” means we can’t be shaken off by discouragement, silence, or answers long in coming. We just keep making a beeline to the Father, pressing steadily toward the throne of grace.
When we’re desperate enough, our needs and those of others drive us to keep seeking, keep knocking without deterrence. A steady cry for help or mercy is never ignored.
Prayer for Meditation
Father, I will keep coming to you until you answer, because I know that you will.
Scripture for Meditation
Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened. Matthew 7:8

Pain is the pathway to understanding love

Love and pain go together, for a time at least.
If you would know Love, you must know pain too.

~~Hannah Hurnard

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
We were made for a perfect world, but we do not live in one. In this life, love and pain come paired; one does not exist without the other. For now, the consolations of love come tinged with grief, misunderstanding, and even loss.
Yet Hannah Hurnard describes pain as a pathway to understanding love—the kind of all-encompassing love God has for us. To get to the heights, we must go through the valley. To understand love, we must be willing to experience pain—for true love calls for giving, for sacrifice, for facing hurt and loss.
Jesus himself showed the ultimate love by his willingness to sacrifice his life for us. His love for us was worth whatever pain it took to bring us to himself. If we want to truly love, we must willingly follow his example.
Prayer for Meditation
Help me to understand that pain teaches me more about your love, Dear Lord.
Scripture for Meditation
We know what real love is because Jesus gave up his life for us. So we also ought to give up our lives for our brothers and sisters. 1 John 3:16

His Unfailing Love

Our prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing this morning comes from A Book of Prayer by Stormie Omartian.
Prayer for Meditation
LORD, I know that what I may see as unanswered prayer may not be unanswered at all. It means that you are answering according to Your will. Whether I understand Your will or not doesn’t affect the fact that I trust it and praise You for it. Thank You for Your unfailing Word and that You always keep Your promises to me. I thank You that Your power is infinite. Your judgments and Your will are perfect, and I trust them. Whether or not my prayers are answered the way I pray them, I will praise and worship You above all things. For you are my Wonderful Counselor, my Everlasting Father, my Stronghold in the Day of Trouble, and my Resting Place. I rest in You today.
Scripture for Meditation
Do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. Hebrews 10:35-36 NIV
