Lord, remind me to make no decision without talking to you first.

The principle make no decision without prayer
keeps me from rushing in and committing myself before I consult God.
It guards me against people-pleasing.

~~Elizabeth George

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
How many times have you been asked to do something—a perfectly God-honoring, mission-fulfilling task—and you said “yes” only because you knew that’s what the person asking wanted to hear? And how many times have you regretted that “yes” as soon as you hung up the phone? Consider this: That task may have been a burden you were not meant to bear.
Suppose you do as Elizabeth George suggests: make no decision without prayer. Imagine not feeling the pressure to say “yes” when everything in you is shouting “no.” Imagine the joy of conferring with God in the decision-making process. Imagine the relief when he says, “No, this is not something I want you to do,” or the excitement when he says, “Yes, I will enable you to do this task. It’s perfect for you.”
No more people-pleasing. Your job is to be God-pleasing. That’s what matters most.
Prayer for Meditation
Lord, remind me to make no decision without talking to you first.
Scripture for Meditation
Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
