Be still. It’s the perfect antidote to worry.

Be still, be still, and know that He is God, / be calm, be trustful; work, and watch, and pray, / till from the throes of this last anguish rise / the light and gladness of that better day.

~~Harriet Beecher Stowe

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
Be still. That’s not easy to do when the boss hands you a pink slip, or your husband says he wants a divorce. When difficulties hit, our immediate response is to take action, try to regain control, and fix whatever is broken. We become anxious, sleepless, and at times, even frantic.
And God calls us to be still? How, exactly, is that supposed to work?
God isn’t calling us to inaction. But in the midst of our troubles, he is calling us to pause before we hit the panic button, to listen before we talk, to quiet our racing hearts before we give in to despair.
When we do find time to be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him, we discover untapped resources with which to cope and hidden strengths with which to carry on. That’s because God now is in control, guiding us, caring for us, and moving us toward a better day.
Be still. It’s the perfect antidote to worry.
Prayer for Meditation
Lord, I want to trust you and give my worries over to you.
Scripture for Meditation
The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm. Exodus 14:14
