His strength is perfect when our strength is gone

One thing is certain; namely, that never is the soul so perfect that it does not need the continual help of God, even though it be transformed in him.
 ~~Saint Catherine of Genoa

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
It would be wonderful if we could just be perfect. Why doesn’t God just make that change in us the minute we receive him? Why not just flip a switch for “perfection” and be done with it? He would have so much less trouble with us.
But, you see, that’s not the point. God is not afraid of a little trouble. Instead, he’s in the business of full transformation which—like an acorn growing into an oak tree—takes time but builds strength to withstand the storms. We have been made perfect in God’s eyes, even as we are growing more and more perfect every day as we walk with him. Sometimes we trip up, sometimes we take a couple of steps backward, but always we are moving forward. And in that process, we continually seek God’s help, drawing ever closer to him.
And that’s the point.
Prayer for Meditation
I need your continual help today to walk forward—with you.
Scripture for Meditation
I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead. I want to suffer with him, sharing in his death, so that one way or another I will experience the resurrection from the dead!
I don’t want to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.  Philippians 3:10-14
