Women were first at the Cradle and last at the Cross. They had never known a man like this Man . .
. A prophet and teacher who never nagged at them, never flattered or coaxed or
promised.
~~Dorothy Sayers
This
morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest
Christian Women Writers of All Time.
We
look for perfection—and are disappointed. The reality is that the men in our
lives are far from perfect. They cannot be perfect for us any more than we can
be perfect for them. So we would be wise to stop expecting it.
We
should look instead at the One who defines perfection, the only human being
ever to live a flawless life. Many people at the time didn’t see it, but a few
did—the women who surrounded him as a baby, birthing him, protecting him,
rejoicing in him; those who surrounded him on the cross, weeping and agonizing
over his unjust death.
They
had found the perfect man—he didn’t nag or flatter or coax or patronize. He
loved. He showed them their value. He taught them. He made them his disciples.
And
they went out and changed the world.
