God, thanks for forgetting my sins. Help me give that grace to others.

Only the Lord forgets sin.

Only God can take it and send it as far away as the East is from the West.

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.

Some people won’t let it go. You know the ones. They like reminding you of times you’ve messed up in the past. Maybe they’ve said they forgive you, but the next time a disagreement erupts, a historical timeline of offenses is unpacked, shaken about, and aired out—again.

People may do that, but God doesn’t. The Word says that when we repent of our sins, they’re gone! They have been removed as far as the East is from the West—in other words, they’re in a void, can’t be found. The slate is clean because God doesn’t maintain records of sins confessed with a contrite and repentant heart.

People may periodically try to usher you through your Hall of Shame, pointing out errors and losses, but you don’t have to tread the archives with them. If you’ve cleared your record with the Lord, no one else’s scorecard matters.

God, thanks for forgetting my sins. Help me give that grace to others.

Scripture for Meditation

He revealed his character to Moses

and his deeds to the people of Israel.

The Lord is compassionate and merciful,

slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

He will not constantly accuse us,

nor remain angry forever.

He does not punish us for all our sins;

he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve.

For his unfailing love toward those who fear him

is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.

He has removed our sins as far from us

as the east is from the west.
