Lord, I give you my burdens today. Help me not to take them back.

Whatever burden or care we take to Jesus, if we would get the peace promised, we must leave with Him as entirely as the little child leaves his school troubles with his mother . . .We must say, Christ has taken that.

~~Harriet Beecher Stowe

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
Jimmy has had a very bad day at school. First, he forgot his homework. Second, he fell and ripped the knee of his jeans. Third, he found out one of his friends is moving. He trudges home with the weight of the world on his shoulders. As he tells his mom, Jimmy sobs a little (he can do that in front of her). And then, he feels a little better. Mom is sharing the burden with him. She gives him a hug. Things will be all right.
We carry so many worries and cares. We go to Jesus to give them to him, and then we take them right back as if we don’t quite trust him. If we really want the peace he promises, then we have to let go. Really, how had is that?
Give it all to Jesus and then say with confidence, “Christ has taken that.”
