Stop and smell the roses

To “see God in nature,” to attain a radiant consciousness of the “otherness” of natural things, is the simplest and commonest form of illumination.
~~Evelyn Underhill

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
We’ve all heard the phrase, “Stop and smell the roses.” This clichéd advice carries a picturesque invitation to shift your day into a lower gear and notice the beauty around you.
What happens in your soul when you choose to s-l-o-w down and drink in the vivid colors of a sunset? Or when you allow yourself to be wrapped in the soft warmth of a fire in the fireplace? Or when you breathe in the intoxicating scent of crisp fall air?
To give your attention to the beauty of creation is, as Evelyn Underhill notes, a way to devote your attention to its Creator. Noticing the exquisite gifts God has placed in the world around you can become your simple expression of worship. Even if your schedule today is packed with tasks, stop and enjoy the beauty around you—and as you do, honor the One who made it for you.
Prayer for Meditation
I am breathing the scent of the roses you made today, my Creator.
Scripture for Meditation
The heavens proclaim his righteousness; every nation sees his glory. Psalm 97:6
Music for Meditation
