Our joy should simply be in our relationship with God, not in what he does for us

God allows us to have disappointments, frustrations, or even worse because He wants us to see that our joy is not in such worldly pleasures . . . our joy is in the fact that we have a relationship with God.
~~Catherine Marshall

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
God alone holds the “big picture” of our existence. He alone can lift us up to transcend anxieties and problems. Ah! What a gift to have such help!
Many people wonder why, if they stay close to God, they will experience disappointments, frustrations, or worse. They want God to insulate them from the realities of life. They think, if God love me, then these things shouldn’t happen.
But God allows those bad things in life. As Catherine Marshall explains, “He wants us to see that our joy is not in such worldly pleasures.” Instead, our joy should simply be in our relationship with God, not in what he does for us.
Step out of your difficulties for a moment. Look into the face of your heavenly Father who loves you so much. His love for you is all that really matters.
Prayer for Meditation
Thank you for loving me, Lord. My joy is in you alone.
Scripture for Meditation
Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the Lord! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation! The Sovereign LORD is my strength. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, able to tread upon the heights. Habakkuk 3:17-19
