Lord, help me to talk less and listen more

This practice of listening to God has increased my intimacy
with Him more than any other spiritual discipline.

~~Sarah Young

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
Sit for a minute and just listen. What do you hear? The gurgle of the coffee maker. The sizzle of food simmering on the stove. Snatches of your daughter’s phone conversation down the hall. The deep pulse of the bass from a cranked-up stereo in a passing car.
Our world is filled with sounds, both pleasant and unpleasant. It is not an easy task to hear God’s voice amidst all the other noises. As Sarah Young says, it takes practice and discipline. That means it’s going to take a little work on our part. It may mean finding that quiet place with few distractions. It means opening the Bible and reading God’s Word. It means intentionally listening for God’s voice.
Such intimacy with God! How wonderful that God would choose to speak to us if we would only hear. Close your eyes and listen. What is God saying to your today?
Prayer for Meditation
Lord, help me to talk less and listen more. I want to know you better.
Scripture for Meditation
Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make, Oh, that you would choose life, that you and your descendants might live! Choose to love the Lord you God and to obey him and commit yourself to him, for he is your life. Then you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Deuteronomy 30:19-20
