Progress has a price; and becoming a person who never gives up will cost you

Progress has a price; and becoming a person who never gives up will cost you.

~~Joyce Meyer

This morning’s prayer and meditation for Sally’s healing comes from Take Heart, Oh God: Riches from the Greatest Christian Women Writers of All Time.
What might it cost us to walk closer with Jesus, to move forward and deeper in our relationship with him? Might we have to lose a friend who is holding us back? Might we have to set aside some habits that we know are detrimental to our spiritual growth? Lose a few extra minutes of sleep in order to have a daily quiet time? Risk annoying a family member who thinks we’ve jumped overboard?
Moving forward always has a price. Risks are involved. Often we enter into unchartered territory. Dangers may come our way. Like Pilgrim in the classic book Pilgrim’s Progress, our journeys to the Celestial City take us through all manner of sloughs and valleys.
But the only way to get where we’re going is to never give up. To walk closer with Jesus is priceless. The cost isn’t worth counting.
Prayer for Meditation
Jesus, I want to never give up as I draw closer to you.
Scripture for Meditation
Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? Is anything worth more than your soul? For the Son of Man will come with his angels in the glory of his Father and will judge all people according to their deeds. And I tell you the truth, some standing here right now will not die before they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.” Matthew 16:24-28
